Which is the best ski resort in Northern California (Taheo) for kids?

Nikhil B asked:

we are planning a ski vacation this February to N. California Ski Resort in Tahoe. Which resorts are the best for beginners (me and my wife) and kids (7 and 3)

I’m not sure if it would be suitable for kids, but i have skiied at Mount Rose and Heavenly which are two exceptional locations.

If you’re travelling in, you may want to stay close to the hill. Mt Rose, while a great mountain, has no accomodations very close. Heavenly in south lake tahoe has a great village and frequent free buses from the town to the mountain and back. There’s a ton of lodging options both cheap and fancy. Squaw and Northstar are both on the north side of the lake and has alot of accomodations right in their villages. Any of those three would be fantastic choices – here’s a thumbnail on their differences:
Heavenly – walking distance to south shore casinos for adult entertainment – great “ski town” at the base of the gondola.
Squaw – European look and feel – absolutely huge mountains – great shopping, restaurants and bars in the village – alittle on the chic chic side.
Northstar – most family friendly – their village is 70% complete – not alot of amenities in the village yet
