Beginner skier needs advise?
Brook C asked:
I have only skied when i was little. Now i have met some really good friends that go snowboarding alot. With the winter coming up i dont want to miss the chance to go with them to the slopes. But, i dont know where to start. What kind of skis would i buy or look into if i was going to be riding with snowboarders? I know they all have freestyle boards and i want to stay up with them but dont know the type of skis to buy. Plus besides a couple of times, im a beginner… but i do learn fast. Also, im not extremly rich and i know skis, boots, and bindings can get pretty pricey, any help??

Go to a ski swap and the people there can help you. There are usually used skis in good shape there as well as new skis for good deals. There are always swaps in the fall, maybe look online to find one near you. Any type of ski will be fine, it is really your skill level that will determine if you can keep up or not. If they have freestyle boards and you want to fit in, twin tips would be a good choice, However, skis with some sidecut (also called “shaped skis” or the old term “parabolic”) are the easiest skis for beginner and intermediate skiers to turn. And turning is good!

Annie had lots of good advise. Ski swaps are great. But i want you to look at websites like and. They have great deals on cheap beginner skis with bindings. I would LOVE to help you find a pair of skis. Email me at. I need to know your weight, height, gender, and skiing ability. And I hope that doesn’t sound weird, but it’s necessary to find the right skis. I’ll find you some cheap ones. And i would for sure get Twin-tips. They are the new thing, and you will regret it if you don’t. And Annie, almost all skis are parabolic now… except skis like the Armada ARG, and other fatty powder skis. I doubt he would even look at those. But good advice. But let me know and i’d love to help you find a good pair! Cheers!
