Skiing in Geneva? – Poor geography and help needed?

bubble_kk701 asked:

Hey guys,

My friends and I will be visiting Geneva this coming 29th and 30th of Dec for the first time. Since we are all students (~20 yr.old), this is sorta like a backpacking trip for us.

Knowing that Switzerland is famous for its Swiss Alps and winter sports during winter, may I know where can we go for the skiing day trip from Geneva? Any particular places which will allow us to experience skiing (beginner) and at the same time gain a sight of the famous mountain in Switzerland? Since we are just spending 2 days in Geneva and are on the budget side, is it possible to make a day trip to that particular place? How’s the fare approximately and do we need to book in advance?

About 2 hour train ride from Geneve – you will find skiing.
Look into Diableres or Leysin (Leysin is my peronsal favorate – take the train to Aigle and then the cog train up the mountain and it will drop you off less than a mile fromt he slopes.)
No need to book in advance – choose your desitaion take the train there and then purchase ski passes upon arrival.

Also, Chamonix, Megeve (all in France) is about 2hrs drive from Geneva.
Daily buses from buses terminal (Gare Routiere) Place des Alpes, Geneva.
