Where is a good place to stay for snow skiing in Breckenridge, Colorado?

harlowcl asked:

My wife and I are going for our 1 year anniversary, and have never been skiing before. I would like to stay at a nice place. Any help would be appreciated.

I would try to find a place in frisco, CO. It is about 8 miles from breckenridge but they have nice cheap places to stay. Also Silverthorn, but it is about 20 miles away,

If you meant good place, then any place in Breck is good. It’s close enough to walk anywhere, so you and your wife could even hit up a bed and breakfast and walk to the slopes in the morning for some skiing/riding. If you want an inexpensive place, then you would opt for Frisco, which is about 8 miles North of Breck on Hwy 9, off of I-70. I think the exit is 195? I could be wrong. Anyway, they’ll probly have a shuttle into Breck every morning and throughout the day, or if you ahve a rental car, it’s a short, easy drive down Hwy 9.

Silverthorne would be too far away, it’s close to Keystone, but not worth it if you’re riding Breck.

Everyone is correct in saying Frisco is cheaper and it is fairly convenient with the free Summit shuttle. The most popular place to stay seems to be Beaver Run Resort, right at the base of Peak 9 in Breck. It’s huge and you can ski-out. What I would recommend though is calling Breckenridge reservations at 800-842-8062 and they can tell you about the different deals and packages at different places. It is often cheaper for lift tickets if you book them with your lodging. You can also visit

Breckenridge is a never nice town to stay in. They have very affordable hotels and lodges. Plus there are a lot of restaurants and shops in the town. Skiing is pretty good there as well, however definitely directed more for beginner and intermediate skiers.

They have lift tickets available for purchase that are good to use there at Breckenridge as well as Keystone (my personal favorite), A-Basin (better for advanced skiers), and Cooperhead (always very crowed). All of these places are within 30 minutes of each other.

If you shop around to different lodges you can find some that will give you VERY good deals on lift tickets for staying at their lodge. I do not remember the name of the lodge but I once stayed in Keystone and got a 4 day lift ticket to all of the above mentioned places for only $99.00 which is an unbelievable price considering a 1 day lift ticket at the mountain cost about $65.00
