This is not true.
However there is a place under (slow) construction in north New Jersey that is an indoor ski mountain that is expected to be up before superbowl 2013. It was called “Xanadu” but it’s at the future meadowlands mall. However there has been many snags (and a complete hault in construction) because of lack of funds as they are switching to a new funder, the canadian company that owns mall of america. When it opens it will be a mellow ski slope and another with mostly small and mellow park features.
Keep in mind there is also a chance it wont open at all seeing how it’s been under construction for years and was expected to open last year.
That would be the first indoor ski mountain in the U.S. There is an outdoor dryslope mountain in lynchburg, VA called the Liberty mountain snowflex which is college owned but opened to the public as well. In the spring, summer and fall it is not real snow it is a plastic carpet type of material that is misted from below with water for lubrication while riding. It’s mostly a freestyle setup with rails and a medium sized jumpline.
If you want to travel further west Mt. Hood, Oregon is open during the summer as well (with “real snow” – glacier snow) Only the top portion of the mountain is open with 2 lifts they usually have 1 public park and several private camp parks. Of those camps several are High Cascade Summer Camp (HCSC) and Windells. Both are fairly expensive but if you are looking to learn and hone new freestyle snowboarding or skiing skills then you will gain a lot of experience in just a week there.
I should also mention Mammoth Mountain, CA is expected to be open until July 4th of this summer with majority coverage (it snowed 4-8 inches there a couple of weeks ago).

Never heard of summer boarding in NY. As far as I know, there are only two resorts (without traveling off the continent) that are open during the summer. One is Mt. Hood, in Oregon and the other’s Whistler, in BC, Canada. Sorry if that’s not the news you wanted to hear…

LOL try High Cascade in Mt. Hood or Camp of Champions in Canada.
